Northern Territory

The Northern Territory is now included on the website as Darwin was the first line of defence in 1942 and the greater majority of men and materiel was transported by land through South Australia. This link is recorded by the excellent Northern Territory Government War Heritage Trail all along the Stuart Highway from Alice Springs to Darwin. Alice Springs was the initial assembly point for the "Track" as it was then known, following the input from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth via Port Augusta. Although the Northern Territory is remembered mainly for its involvement in World War II (WWII), many of its people served in the Great War of 1914-19 and subsequent conflicts following WWII.

To access the Northern Territory section of the site proceed as follows:

1. Select: war memorial listing on the front page

2. Go to Town Search in left column.

3. Scroll down to NT; this is where the listings for the Northern Territory towns and sites begin.

4. Select a NT town or site

5. Select: Search now

6. When the site registers, select memorial title,
eg. NT Adelaide River, then AdelaideRiverC1, this will bring up all photographs and text.
